What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to discuss their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Rochester Hills, Michigan will share their experience getting sober through their personal anecdotes with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religion, creed or race, for membership, just the want to achieve sobriety, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Rochester Hills, Michigan
It is important when coming to Alcoholics Anonymous that you select a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not solely for new comers but is a meeting that inspires members to speak their truth and reach out for help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout Alcoholics Anonymous and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can walk into an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Rochester Hills, Michigan
The best way to benefit the most from your first AA meeting you should remain open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, stop talking, pay attention to the message, and humbly ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, there will be the same message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another person suffering from alcohol addiction which you will find in any AA meeting you choose to start with.
