What is an AA Meeting?

An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is an assembly where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to discuss their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Brattleboro, Vermont will share their experience getting sober through their personal anecdotes with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the want to get sober, and live a happy & healthy existence without alcohol.

How to Choose an AA Meeting in Brattleboro, Vermont

It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that encourages them to speak their truth and accept help. The next type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to stay sober from alcohol. Talking about any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were created to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can attend an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.

How to get the most out of your initial Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Brattleboro, Vermont

To get the most out of your initial Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you need to walk through the front door with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to be ready to arrive early and stay late because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening announcements that you raise your hand to introduce yourself as a new member of AA. Don’t forget to ask for a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members. Last, but certainly not least don’t hesitate to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you through their doors that day.
