What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to discuss their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Perrysburg, Ohio will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone seeking help with a drinking problem. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the want to stop drinking, and live a happy & healthy existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Perrysburg, Ohio
It is important when coming to Alcoholics Anonymous that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to share their stories and accept help. Another type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Speaking of any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are focused around the 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout Alcoholics Anonymous and holding each group accountable to these traditions is why you can walk into a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to get the most out of your first meeting in Perrysburg, Ohio
To get the most out of your first meeting you need to walk through the front door willing to accept change and be open minded. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening remarks that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Don’t forget to ask for a meeting list, with contact information of the group members.
