What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is an assembly where alcoholics and people who struggle with drug use gather for one hour to share their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Baltimore, Ohio will share their experience getting sober through their personal anecdotes with anyone looking to get sober. There is no religion, creed or race, for membership, just the wish to achieve sobriety, and live a fulfilling life without alcohol.
How to Choose an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Baltimore, Ohio
It is important when coming to Alcoholics Anonymous that you pick a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to share their stories and reach out for help. The next type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other substance use addictions is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout Alcoholics Anonymous and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can walk into an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Baltimore, Ohio
In order to benefit the most from your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should remain open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The most beneficial thing I was told was to sit down, shut up, pay attention to the message, and graciously ask for help. At any meeting, there will be the same message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any AA meeting you choose to start with.
