What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to share their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Sterling Heights, Michigan will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone seeking help with a drinking problem. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the aspiration to get sober, and live a fulfilling existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Sterling Heights, Michigan
Alcoholism is a disease of the mind, body, and soul. AA has developed meetings to help with each individual piece of your independence from alcohol. If you are looking for a meeting on the first three steps, beginner meetings are for you. If you are looking to get more in touch with your spiritual side, attending a meditation meeting would be a recommended choice. If you are in search of other people’s journeys to sobriety, a speaker meeting is the right place for you. If you are through your steps and are now working on the traditions of AA, a traditions meetings will help. If you want to attend a single gender group, you can go to a men’s or women’s meeting where you wont find anyone of the opposite gender there. The fact of the matter is there is a meeting for everyone. Try them out until you find one that you find most beneficial.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Sterling Heights, Michigan
In order to benefit the most from your first AA meeting you should remain open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, stop talking, pay attention to the message, and humbly ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, that one thing that won’t change is the message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any meeting you choose to make your first.
