What is an AA Meeting?
Alcoholics Anonymous is a program created to help its members stay sober. It is free to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Detroit, Michigan as the funding is accepted on a [donation from its members.
Alcoholics Anonymous is among the most commonly recognized programs in the United States and around the world that helps countless men and women get sober in the pursuit of lifelong recovery. AA meetings are usually small groups of recovering alcoholics who share their experiences achieving sobriety and are there to help new members stay sober.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Detroit, Michigan
It is important when coming to AA that you pick a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not solely for new comers but is a meeting that inspires them to share their stories and ask for help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Speaking of any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can attend an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Detroit, Michigan
The best way to benefit the most from your first AA meeting you should keep an open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The most beneficial thing I was told was to sit down, stop talking, listen to the message, and modestly ask for help. At any meeting, the one constant will be message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another person suffering from alcoholism which you will find in any meeting you choose to pick as your first.
